Peintiadau / Paintings BLACK DIAMOND 2017Corporate logos are broken apart, abstracted, mashed-up and re-configured into new forms. Bear Stearns was a large-scale casualty of the global financial crisis of 2007 and subsequently sold to JP Morgan Chase who later dropped the company name. One aspect of the piece is the physical re-arrangement of the painted panels – shifted rotated, linked and spaced apart. There is a play between each panel as a distinct element and the dialogue between parts within the group. The elements of flux and play in the multi-panel paintings are influenced by the shifting components of 15-square puzzle games and by the repetitive patterns of decorative tiles. The work draws on the accumulation of advertising imagery and branding that we encounter on a daily basis, yet successive shifts and alterations create hybrid forms from the original points of reference.
